You've finally done it. After months or even years of hard work, you've managed to get your website to the top of Google's search results. Congratulations! But before you start patting yourself on the back, it's important to understand that a high SEO ranking is only half the battle. Just because your website appears at the top of the search results doesn't mean that people are actually clicking through to your site—or that they're stick around once they land there.
In fact, a high SEO ranking can sometimes even do more harm than good if your website isn't optimised for users. Let's take a look at why this is and what you can do to make sure that your high SEO ranking doesn't go to waste.
The Problem with a High SEO Ranking
A high SEO ranking on Google can be both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it means that more people are seeing your website and have the potential to click through to it. On the other hand, it also means that you're up against some stiff competition—competition that might have better-optimised websites than yours. If someone clicks through to your website from the search results and doesn't find what they're looking for, or if your website takes too long to load, they're likely to click back to the search results and try one of your competitors instead. This is called "bounce rate", and it's something that you need to keep an eye on if you want to make sure that your high SEO ranking is actually helping your business.
What You Can Do About It
There are a few things that you can do to make sure that your high SEO ranking doesn't go to waste.
First, make sure that your website is optimised for users—not just for search engines. This means having well-written and informative content as well as fast loading times and an easy-to-navigate design.
Second, keep an eye on your bounce rate and strive to continuously improve it. There are a number of ways to do this, such as A/B testing different page designs or running ads specifically targeted at people who have already visited your site but didn't convert into customers.
Finally, don't rest on your laurels just because you've achieved a high SEO ranking—continue to work hard and stay up-to-date on the latest changes in the world of search engine optimization so that you can maintain (or even improve) your position in the search results.
